About the event
This is our monthly critique group/workshop. Members bring a maximum of 2 pages of poetry to share with the group (digital copies preferred, but printed copies welcome). We ask members to come with the openness to give, receive, and discuss writing feedback with the group.
Our monthly workshop is structured as:
- 1st hour: Quietly read and review poems from the other group members. This is your time to get immersed in their poetry and jot down comments you may have (praises and critiques!).
- 2nd hour: Divide the hour into equal time slots per number of people present (e.g., 6 members = 10 minutes per member). Ask the writer being workshopped to remain silent and listen to the discussion to absorb the feedback and process what revisions may or may not be needed. Group members spend the time slot discussing their interpretations, praise, questions, and any suggestions for the writer.
Note: This is a critique-based group, so please avoid defending your work. We're all here out of love and respect for one another and are not critiquing you, the writer. We're critiquing the work and how it's being interpreted by a reader. Ultimately, you get to decide if you implement or ignore suggestions in your revision process.
